Muskingum River Parkway State Park

Muskingum River Parkway State Park is unique in that it’s not necessarily one single location. It’s a system of locks and dams along Muskingum River with picnic areas, launch ramps, and even campsites for the public to enjoy. We visited Ellis Lock and Dam #11 on our way home from Salt Fork. This site offers camping, picnicking, and a boat launch. There aren’t any trails on this section of the parkway, however near the Stockport section you can follow part of the Buckeye Trail. Birding along a river like this is pretty ideal as well but we didn’t see much bird activity as we visited mid-afternoon on a hot day. Whether you prefer a kayak or a pontoon boat, the Muskingum River Parkway welcomes anyone who enjoys a recreational day trip on the water. In its heyday, the Muskingum River was a vital transportation corridor to and from the Ohio river and is on the National Register of Historic Places.
